Tuzla Canton
The total investment required for implementation of the Action Plan for this Strategy over seven years is only 3,409,000 BAM.
487,000.00 BAM annually
  • 0.14% of the annual cantonal budget
  • 0.31% of the budget of the Ministry of Education and Science of Tuzla Canton
  • 292 students with disabilities are attending primary schools
  • 0.7% of the total number of primary school age children

Many children with disabilities are either not registered in the regular education system or are not included at all, and they certainly do not receive adequate support required for successful inclusion.

Tuzla Canton has substantial capacities to implement inclusion through human resources available at the Faculty of Special Education and Rehabilitation, Pedagogical Institute of Tuzla Canton, non-governmental organisations and future centres for the development of inclusive practices transformed from specialised institutes.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE TUZLA CANTON STRATEGY INVOLVED:

28 documents
consultations with 41 institutions, institutes, organisations
discussions with more than 300 participants
the strategy covers 5 areas, 11 measures, 39 activities

It is a major investment at a minimal cost

It completely rejects the approach that sees children/students with disabilities as passive recipients of medical and/or other types of care (under the medical model)

The emphasis is on the abilities of each child/student, who can, after the society removes all existing obstacles, achieve their full potential.

THE FOLLOWING STEPS:

Over the next three years, the Ministry of Education and Science of Tuzla Canton, in cooperation with Save the Children and with financial support from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will establish the first two centres for development of inclusive practices and initiate the process of transformation of special schools in the Tuzla Canton. This cooperation will take place as part of the project Inclusion4All and in partnership with the Knowledge Centre Profectus from Croatia and Vesta Association. In addition to these activities, the project also aims to strengthen civil society organisations to support inclusion and publicly advocate inclusion of children with disabilities and their families.
